All programs offered through  PDS have been approved by the Private Investigators and Polygraph Board to meet Level I and II licensing requirements for Security Officers in New Mexico.

Use of Force

Utilizing the Reactive Control Model adopted in New Mexico to train Law Enforcement personnel, this program provides Security Officers with everything they need to know to understand the ethical responsibilities and legal requirements of using force during the performance of their duties. This is vital in reducing liability and assuring officer safety.

Arrest and Control Tactics

Learn how to safely approach and secure a subject, clear and easily understood verbal commands, single and multiple officer tactics, single and multiple subject control tactics, equipment requirements and options and the physical skills required to control cooperative, non-cooperative, resistant and combative individuals are all covered.

Pressure Point Compliance

Pressure Points are areas of the body that are susceptible to pressure or impact. They create pain and/or dysfunction that help in subduing resistant or combative subjects. They are ideal for security and law enforcement use as they are highly effective against most subjects and are very unlikely to cause injury to the officer or offender.

Tactical Use of Impact Weapons

This programs covers the affective and safe use of Impact Weapons such as Batons and Flashlights. Strikes, deflections and subject control tactics are introduced and practiced in a controlled environment. Once the officers are proficient with the basic skills, scenarios are used to expose them to realistic situations and challenges.

Managing Aggressive Behavior

MAB teaches the participant how to communicate in a potentially violent situation. Participants learn to read verbal, non-verbal and body language cues and how to be respond in a non-threatening manner. Positioning, distance and approach all play vital roles in how a situation will be resolved. These are introduced with role-playing scenarios providing the participants with an avenue to test their new knowledge and skills.

Violent Subject Response

This Defensive Tactics program immerses participants in the world of personal violence and what to do when physically attacked. This is an intense two-day program that continues where MAB leaves off. The subject is threatening someone else or the officer directly, attack is iminent, all attempts to commmunicate have failed, the subject refuses to cooperate, and isengaging is not an option. Now what do you do? VSR provides the participant with the knowledge, tactics, physical skills and mental preparation needed to survive a violent attack form a committed and determined individual. This is a physically demanding course. However, the rewards and confidence gained are well worth the sweat and effort.

Defense Against Edged Weapons

Edged Weapons are a favorite weapon in Todays' society. They are easy to acquire, easy to carry and concceal, easy to use and the results can be devastating. The use of edged weapons by some element sof our society is growing rapidly. It is imperative that officers who deal with people in potentially confrontational or dangerous situations be trained how to defend against edged weapons. This program teaches the participants to respect and recognize the dangers inherent in dealing with a person with an edged weapon. Basic skills are taught and the importance of positioning, distancing, and appropriate response is emphasized.

Tactical Use of Aerosol Weapons, Pepper Spray

Learn the properties and contents found in OC, Oleoresin Capsicum Sprays. Learn tactics an dappropriate use of this powerful defensive tool. Spray pattersn, how to use safely, how to de-contaminate and common effects are covered. Officers will get to practice with inert sprays to acquire tactical proficiency and experience the effects first hand of being contaminated by one of their class mates. This is important as the officers gain a respect for OC and know first hand the effects and how to decontaminate an individual if OC is used against them.

About the Programs Taught By Personal Defense Systems

Our programs include information on acquiring the tactical mindset, combat preparation, pre-incident assessment and post incident follow up. The psychological and emotional aspects of human violence are discussed so that officers know what to expect and how to deal with the affects that htey may experience before, during and after a critical indicent. Techniques and Tactics for trauma control and recovery are also introduced.

Providing high quality education to your officers is the best way to reduce risk and ensure professionalism and high quality service. Personal Defense Systems has been providing Law Enforcement and Security Officer Training Programs for over 15 years.

Programs can be presented as an initial training for new officers or as a continuing education program for more experienced personnel. Classes may be taught at your location or at our training center in Tesuque, New Mexico. Classes vary in length. Costs depend on number of partiipants and programs selected.
